The MTA announced planned service changes for 2017, with work primarily occurring in March, October, and November. According to the MTA, most of the work involves the installation and testing of the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, which will allow for slightly more train service as well as countdown clocks. Track panel replacement work is also scheduled, but the construction will not require full station closures.
In 2016, the MTA replaced 94% of the Flushing Line’s tracks and completed rehabilitation of the Steinway Tubes in April.
