#AskTheMTA: April 5 Town Hall

April 5, 2016 (6:30-8:30pm): City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer and Access Queens will host Ask the MTA, a public town hall with newly-appointed MTA New York City Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim. Co-sponsoring city officials with jurisdiction along the 7 Flushing Line are also invited to attend.

Ask the MTA provides an opportunity for 7 Train riders to ask substantive questions via social media using #AskTheMTA and to learn about future plans for the 7. The event is structured around Access Queens' initiative to establish a non-contentious and constructive dialog with city and transit officials. Riders are encouraged to RSVP on Facebook (account required) and attend.

Here's what you can expect:

Date: Tuesday, April 5, 2016 – 6:30-8:30pm
Place: Sunnyside Community Services, 43-31 39th St, Sunnyside, NY 11104 (Take the 7 to 40th St) [View Map]

  • Opening: Remarks by Jimmy Van Bramer, Access Queens Founder/Exec. Director Melissa Orlando, MTA New York City Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim, and other city officials.
  • Presentation: Given by the MTA about the 7 Train.
  • Q&A: Questions will be collected in advance on Facebook and Twitter via #AskTheMTA. Questions may also be emailed to info@accessqueens.org or asked the night of the event. However, the earlier questions are submitted, the more the MTA will have a chance to conduct research before the event.

#AskTheMTA It was reported last year that the MTA planned to schedule two additional trains (at 8pm and 10:20pm) on the 7 line by Dec. 2015. What is the status of that and why was the decision made to add these trains during non-peak times?
